today i came "finally" to the conclusion that i began, after nearly the first REAL time, to dewatch people which i actually followed since they "began" or were small and unknown (or similar).
The problem i had with such people are some reasons which i will explain and you might see why i feel like "its basicly a crime why i dewatched them after THAT long time".
- "growing TO big"
Some people simply think now they got names. they think they grown big and have the "privilege" to do what they are doing coz they have the "rights" for it. I understand that if you build yourself "something", youre in some "point" and "stand" to do something you like and love but some just "think" they grow "SO BIG" that they begin to be either VERY disrespectful to their fans, followers and even smaller artists. You know, everyone, EVEN this guys, began small and being literally "rude assholes" to such smaller artists or even begin a flamewar coz one of such smaller artists gave you a "hint" how you could "do stuff better" and than literally going attack-mode is NOT something you should do. Yes, i believe that EVEN "smaller, unknown" artists and creators might know something YOU "big" artist doesnt know. There is no reason to think something bad about them if they try to actually help you. YOU as "big artist" might have to learn how to DEAL with critique and stop using your fans as "weapons".
Srs to say as well, if you ARE a fan of such "persons", you dont ned to fight THEIR fights for them. You only will end up being a pawn for them and make a fool out of yourself. Srsly, stop it.

- "Fanart = growth"
I ones saw someone (or even more? cant remember) made a quote which was as followed:
"Commissions = money
Fanart = growth
Personal art = sanity"
Basicly, i agree but there is a problem which is the Fanart-part. A L-O-T artists literally MILK the shit out of every drop of character which is "somewhat" known. Patreon artist in particular. You see its a differ if i draw FANART as "Fan" of something and enjoy it doing for the people and myself, create such things and even a game "based" maybe on such stuff for totally free coz im a fan and i enjoy doing such stuff AS FAN...
OR
If i literally do this "Fan stuff" as actual BUSINESS, draw every character just to get attention since my skills might be superb but my IQ is lower than a slice of toast to create my ACTUAL OWN CONTENT AND CREATION but insteed using OTHER peoples creation to earn "MY" money for it.
Look, i dont wanna nameshame people but a lot, literally, patreon artists and similar "grown" big on the shoulders of other people creations. Now, i can already "hear the people screaming": "BUT THE BIG CORPORATIONS DONT CARE ABOUT IT ANYWAY AND I CAN USE THEM AS MUCH AS I WANT AND EARN MY MONEY WITH THEM!!!!11111one"
2 old sayings for that:
- Just becourse "everyone else" is doing it doesnt mean you automaticly can do it nor does it mean you have the rights to do so NOR the others.
- Dont sell whats not yours.
Imagen following:
I create something im very proud of which might be not really much known (since im literally a guy who gives a shit about fame so its pretty fitting) in the first place but still has the right "appeal". This can be maybe a cute character, a super good game or a great music track to give you now "some virtuals" as sample here.
Now, someone just comes by and just "takes" and "uses" it and begins slowly to "take over" your creation that you, simply put, cant call it "fanart" anymore. Maybe said person actually DID began to create fanart of my creation like drawing some simple pictures from your creation but now, the person just uses my creation over and over again and actually earns now money with MY creation WITHOUT MY PERMISSION or WITHOUT ME GETTING ONE CENT FROM IT.
How would you call that now? "Fair"? Maybe even "Stealing"? Srsly to say, just coz you use something from such bigger corps doesnt change the fact of my more personal sample: The said person had no rights to use and earn money with my creation in ANY kind.
In other words, this has literally nothing to do anymore with "Fanart = growth" anymore but more like an actual busness model which runs on the very VERY thin grey line to not getting a copyright-/trademark strike or an actually cease and desist.
I know, i get it. I USE Lemmings and Spy Vs Spy characters and stuff and call them "my own" but thats EXACTLY the reason why i talk like that:
First of all: i DO said stuff 100% F-R-E-E.
---I LITERALLY contacted the OFFICIAL and ORIGINAL copyright holders---
to be 100% S-A-V-E that i could use said stuff and directions. Im sure not 100% save now but again: MY STUFF is 100% FREE so calling me suddendly "hypocrite" would be wrong. I dont use said stuff NOT to "grain fame" like other people might do, i DONT earn money with it, I do stuff 100% FREE, end of story. Sure As for the Lemmings-case, i created own characters which are "based" on the Lemmings characters but if Sony would say "stop that" i have to obey that - same if MAD Magazine would suddendly tell me to use Fuse and Ms Fire (my Spy Vs Spy OCs) anymore.
Let me go with a quote i made already: "(...) Said here, i REALLY wonder if someone "would" delete all the copyrighted characters from your gallery, how much of it will be left after that."
Which ended up in this nice picture i uploaded on DA: https://www.deviantart.com/watheanum/art/Patreon-artists-in-a-nutshell-880588808

- "Playing God" and similar
Sometimes you follow an artist that long that you can basicly see how they begin and how they change over time. As sample, look at my super old stuff and look how much it changed, so you have a sample. Basicly, "Character" wise, i never changed "to much" of my characters. Maybe i took a small detail away and added a new one (like taking away an earring and adding a better haircut or something) but that was basicly it. I only drive to get "better" in my art but i dont really changed my "creations".
But lets hop back to some other creators which, simply put, suddenly have to play GOD with their creations and does NOT only care for what they created but also for the ones which did follow his creations.
Imagen, you create a super cute character now, maybe female, well rounded, maybe a bit with a sexy touch and is....lets say a cat, for now. 5 months later, you suddenly think you "have" to change the design and literally throw your old creation otu of the window, giving your female now SUPER BOWLINGBALL TITS, acts like a motherfucking slut and is now all of a sudden a tiger for no reason.
See, i understand if people feel sometimes not "in touch" with their creation but literally "overwritting" it is not the way to do it. Look at a pet dog as sample: As he was small, you loved him. Now hes grown up and you feel sick of how he look. You cant just SHAVE his fur down and glue new, different fur on him ffs and call him "your new cat". Thats not how it works.
No, insteed "ruining" your old creation, you might need to create something "new". You should not try to build something on the shoulders of your old creation just coz you might "fear" the outcome of the reactions - YOU are the judge and not others. It differs if you just create something new or literally delete your old creation and change it into something else - AKA: literally playing GOD.
Dont do that. Never change to much of a character people and you might grew up with. It makes the character (AND you as creator) implausible for the most part.
Sure, as i said, if you change a character "over time" its normal to do so but suddendly changing gender and race or similar?
Look at it like this: Ageing up is normal. Getting new clothes or a new haircut is also normal. Suddenly playing the "Michael Jackson card" and turn yourself from a black person to a white person is unnatural to BE happen...
-------
With that said, this are the more common reasons for me why i will sort out my "watch" lists. If its either youre now a "big grown asshole", Someone which just draws "fanart" to milk the characters out for money or your characters act like they suffer from a midlife crisis and dont know what they want to be.
But why does it feel like a crime now, for me at least, to "give up" on such people?
Again, as some of the people, i watched them as they were "little unknown people". I saw how they grow, saw their "problems" and inner fights and such. It feels like for me i leave someone behind i followed for a long time since, no not coz i have suddendly daddy feelings and "let the childs go own its own" but more like I give totally UP on some people which i actually layed HOPE in.
Sure, such people can maybe say now "pff its just ONE watcher" but: If you dont respect 1 single watcher, youre not worth the others.
With that said: Every vote, watcher, follower and similar, counts. How small you ever THINK you are, you are a person which counts and can make the differance. :3
always remember that folks~
