In my opinion, I don't think they're censoring things to "fit nowadays standards" or to not "anger the snowflakes".

Maybe it's to lower the ESRB rating? (Maybe)

I don't know what was the rating before and after the change in the Sonic game for instance, but my guess is that the wanted the game to be +7 so more customers (so, kids) could buy the game, although if it was +13, a large part of potential customers couldn't buy the game (or at least would be more difficult)

Sonic caters to kids. So they specifically wants kids to buy it. And so they "censored" Rouge.

Look at the latest Street Fighter games. They get more and more suggestive, because Street Fighter catter to adults. So they want adults to buy it, and add suggestive characters, poses, skins and speech.

Just a thought :3

to lower the ESRB rating? Sonic games where rouge was/is in was/is still ALL AGES back in the day and still are - if not 6+ at least. the Space jam movie was also like was also a KIDS movie. even Animaniacs runned in the MORNING cartoons for KIDS...(just to go with my samples)

I SEROUSLY have high doubts about that mate, no offense...

@WAtheAnum

I'm not taking offense don't worry :3
It was just a random thought

I've looked a bit more into the game's censorship, and I think you may be right. But in the end, companies only wants to make money and choose to cater whoever they want. If they want to avoid backlash from parents, they will do and they have the right to.

Is it wrong? Is it annoying? Honestly it really depends on who you are asking. Adults fans of the franchise might be rightfully infuriated with the censorship, but kids don't care and just want to play the game.

It's a bit like the controversy with the Minecraft movie, where they made it for kids, and long time fans (who are adults) are infuriated with how immature the movie is.

Now, if every game and movies would be made for kids, that would be a problem too...

i think youre not fully getting the point there, even if youre close, i think you miss it. let me link you to a comment on my journal on another page, sec:

@WAtheAnum oh I see now
Truth is, I'm not really accustomed to american media (because I'm not american).

I've read a lot of time on the internet that a lot of games gets censored but I thought it was more of legal matter or even for profits, not for "morals". Well, parents that cause drama for that is for morals either way...

I think what differenciate Japan and the US for instance are obviously culturally different. The Japanese are okay with showing mildly violence and suggestiveness to kids (see the various Shonen shows with ecchi scenes), while in america, there's a deep contrast and definition between "what's for kids" and "what's for adults", so there's no in-between : foreign shows and games marketed to minors will be censored. So yeah, adult fans can't enjoy their favorite show because it was entirely "made for kids-ed".

The problem is more the tendency to polarize things in america I guess. More than "morals" at least, because the japanese wouldn't let their children watch a mature show, but they wouldn't mind if there was some mature elements in their kids show/game either.

I'm a bit perplexed about the "we can kill, behead, etc" part though. No american kid shows or foreign broadcasted shows have that much violence on American kid channel. Violence and suggestiveness are both censored for kids in the US isn't it?
